“Pedaling a little harder to push through the loose sand below and the sheets of fine powder whipping about, you emerge from the haze and find yourself gazing upon a horizon comprised of neon lights clawing upward toward the desert sky, broken only by sporadic bursts of fire and laughter careening through the forest of strange creations that lay ahead. With no destination, you move forward.”

To some these are but odd words from an odd tale. To others they are a touchstone to a very special place that so many have chosen to call “home”. A place known as Burning Man. Idea Fab Labs is proud to present a collection of pieces from photographer SHON DAHLGREN that provide a look at the heart that pumps the life into this beloved event.

A graduate from the Academy of Art University, Shon specializes in capturing the essence of an individual at any given moment and context, creating portraits that are as rich in feel as a favorite novel and as varied as the lives of the characters involved. From 2009-2014 he has been shooting wildly amongst the wildness of Burning Man and is ready to share some of his most impressive findings; displaying the unfiltered humanity and self-expression celebrated in this phantasmical city which exists for but one week of the year. Whether you’re a seasoned burner, or completely unaware of this aforementioned madness, we hope you’ll come gather around the flame with us for a moment and reflect upon the bittersweet chaos and spectacular triumph of human existence.
