For centuries humans have widely debated what art is, but in that debate there is an inherent agreement that art is. Each piece exists as an encapsulation of its creator’s perspective and experience, its sole purpose to be the incarnation and messenger of that infinitely unique momentary feeling. At this current moment, the Idea Fab Labs are proud to present a new gallery of works by Ty Andre Mendoza that connect with the striking intensity of fresh paint on an exposed nerve and speak to a core level of abstract human emotion, like watching a beautiful song. This is SENTIENCE.

For this experience, long-time Fab Lab staffer Ty Andre Mendoza has used his familiarity with laser-cutting as a jumping-off point, taking his personal style of unique geometric creations to new intricate depths. Each piece starts as a simple hand-drawn shape or design, inspiring itself to be pushed further into being. Once pulled into digital existence, this thought continues to grow, its body then carved out from wood and tangible materials via the laser cutter and CNC router. From there, rich wooden inlays and crushed stone layers breathe an earthly essence into the pieces. Evolving toward finality, color and lighting are bestowed in a manner appropriate to the soul of each work. In the end, what stands is a story spoken in one word. A feeling to be seen.

IFL Arts will be offering custom cocktails and other refreshments. We are excited to team up with MONCA in support of their future home in the Chico Veterans Hall on Esplanade! We will be donating 25% of the proceeds from the IFL Arts liquor sales at this event in order to get them closer to refurbishing the space! Check out the Museum of Northern California Art (MONCA)!

SOFA KING – We are SOFA KING excited to welcome this auditory armada of super-charged Soul for their Fab Lab debut! For the last few years these champions of groove have been sweetly slapping Nor Cal with its swanky signature style of Funk music. With bass so thick you could stand a spoon up in it and powerhouse vocals that could move a mountain, they deliver a punchy package of unforgivingly catchy licks that promise to get any head nodding and any booty shaking.

DJ SPENNY – We are stoked to finally have DJ SPENNY onboard! — If you’ve ever cut a rug in Chico, there’s a good chance Spenny was greasin’ your wheels. As the driving force behind the iconic Duffy’s Dance Night and founder of the For The Funk Of It Festival, this man has logged uncountable hours of good-vibe distribution. Known for his uncanny ability to please any audience and a vault of funky jams to delve through, his record crates act as a pandora’s box of ways to put a smile on your face and sweat on your brow. So hold on to your hairpick, it’s about to get groovy.

LOGAN 5 – Stoking the flames of our boogie fire this Saturday will be long time gift-to-Chico, Logan 5. His groove may be eccentric, but his vibes are electric. Whether tickling earbuds through KZFR’s radio waves or levitating feet on the dance floor as a main talent of the 530Techno organization, this man always delivers a soulful selection of tracks that can’t be limited by trivial concepts such as “format” or “genre”. His deep roots in Funk, House, and Techno mixed with a passionate appreciation for daring experimental expression make for a succulent audio cocktail of tunes that sound strikingly fresh yet timelessly familiar.
